This is a south facing garden in Wandsworth, south London. The house was having a back extension put onto it and the garden needed a complete redesign – albeit relatively simple, but effective. The client wanted to keep an area at the back for raised vegetable beds, a lawn, various shrubs and a couple of pretty trees… otherwise it was up to us to clear it and suggest a new look. They also wanted to keep the price down, doesn’t everybody?! We suggested moving the shed, and making a secret garden at the end of the garden for the raised vegetable beds, with a screen of standard “shaped” Photinias staying in place but with a simple arch through to the back area. We created a path, widened the flower beds, took out alot of unnecessary plants and suggested painting the shed and fencing to give a uniform look. We also drew up a planting plan of contemporary low maintenance plants with a predominance of blue, white and pink colours – a mess turned into a mini paradise! The client is very happy!
