This is a tiny garden on the back of a complete gem of a house on the Wandsworth, Earlsfield, Southfields border. The house has been done up immaculately by a young very busy couple and at the back they have this rather overlooked 5 metre by 4 metre garden… and that is SMALL! You can see hat it needed a bit of work done on it. The essential ingredients were to get some planting in, get some privacy and yet still leave space for a table, chairs and barbeque. We decided that the best thing was to strip the garden completely (except that one bamboo managed to escape) and start again. We put in raised beds with excellent limestone coping to match the new paving. In order to give some feeling of privacy we added to the height of the fencing by using horizontal trellising and to give a feeling of extra space we installed a mirror. We planted with lush greens and whites as the client wants a reasonably exotic effect – so phormiums, trachycarpus and grasses where on the plant plan. Lighting about to be installed!
