I went to Burham Beeches on Sunday for the first time in my life, and what have I missed…I made a pact with myself to visit again and again and again in the future. I imagine that it goes mad with bluebells in May and crazy with russets, bronzes, oranges, reds etc in the

Having spent the day at Sussex Prairies at the end of July (you must go next year) the timing was absolutely right – you have never seen anything like the tapestry of colours with swathes of grasses and tall perennials en masse as far as the eye could see I thought I would follow the

Memories of a simple lunch in Provence
Friday, 30 September 2011

This lovely late sunshine has brought back memories of a wonderful lunch we had at our friends’ (Sabine and Christopher Hoysted’s) house in Provence. Wimbledon garden – beautiful planting!
Thursday, 14 July 2011
by caroline
This beautiful Wimbledon garden started off as a heavily “shrubbed” (mostly rhodies) and over grown garden. We have since put in lovely fronds of acers, heucheras,

Clapham garden planted up
Tuesday, 12 July 2011

This is a small tricky little garden (access was difficult – everything came over the wall!), we didn’t do much but we also did alot as the transformation is unbelievable. Some simple things make all the difference: good paving, trellising and planting plus small details such as moving and painting the garden shed, getting rid

NO PEACE IN MY GARDEN Summer is now the time when you can sit back and enjoy your garden. Listen to the sensational blackbird song, enjoy the evening sun after a hard day’s grind, look at your beautiful nail clipped lawn, enjoy the smell of your jasmine and honeysuckle and look at your chosen kaleidoscope

West Green House, Hampshire
Wednesday, 22 June 2011
by caroline
Yesterday I was invited to join a group of garden designers to go and see West Green House, near Hartley Witney in Hampshire – what a beautiful place. I have to say that you do have to organise a group booking as the owner, Marylyn Abbott, likes to tell you about it personally, which is
