I was trying to describe to someone exactly what I meant by New Vintage the other day and I was left a bit speechless as there was too much to say.. Is it soft pinks with deep romantic reds? Is it ordered chaos or shabby chic? Is it natural over ordered? Is it roses instead of grasses? To me it is really getting beauty back in to our gardens. It is moving away from restrained into bold, lush and gorgeous. Most of us in our London gardens, and very often in our country gardens, simply don’t have the space or time to handle a classical herbaceous border in the Gertrude Jekyll sense but a lot of us, if we are honest, would love to get that effect. And we can do this by including some of the more classical plants and shrubs in amongst our contemporary look of whispy grasses, verbenas, sanguisorbas etc (which are fabulous too in their own right). But let’s get them together.
Ordered chaos? Shabby chic? New Vintage? Just love it
