Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum ‘Mariesii’

Family: Adoxaceae

Viburnum can be deciduous or evergreen shrubs with opposite, simple or palmately lobed leaves and clusters of small, often fragrant white or pink flowers, followed by red, blue or black berries.  It has outstanding flowers with widely spreading branches and vibrant shades in the Autumn.

‘Mariesii’ is a large deciduous shrub with wide-spreading, tiered branches and prominently veined, dark green, ovate leaves, purple in autumn. Large lacecap heads of white flowers in late spring are occasionally followed by red, later black fruit

It height and spread are 2.5-4 metres which will take anything from 10 – 20 years. It is happy in the full sun or part shade and will tolerate north-facing, east-facing, south-facing or west-facing aspects, sheltered or exposed.  It is therefore very versatile and will tolerate most moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soils.
