This is a tiny garden that we designed in Wandsworth – it was an unbelievable mess (after builders had transformed the house) and had to be designed for low maintenance as tennants were moving in and they were not interested in gardening! We decided to concentrate on putting in very good paving, York stone steps and improving the fencing with new panels but also some horizontal painted lathes to pretty up the look. We also built a fabulous italian looking bench out of York stone – it “made” the garden in its own right. The whole garden looked like this originally – not one part of retrievable. It had different levels, bad fencing and nothing on the ground, and certainly no beds:
And ended up looking like this:
It is now a beautiful little garden, no longer overlooked and has easy plants which will pretty much look after themselves – planted into gravel to give that hot planting look. The owner and the tennants were delighted!
