Having spent the day at Sussex Prairies at the end of July (you must go next year) the timing was absolutely right – you have never seen anything like the tapestry of colours with swathes of grasses and tall perennials en masse as far as the eye could see I thought I would follow the “prairie planting” theme by going to Pensthorpe, Norfolk. This houses (or gardens) the 1999 Piet Oudolf Millenium garden and it is absolutely beautiful – older and slightly smaller than Sussex Prairies but both in their different ways stunning. However obviously late September is too late for full on perennials and consequently when I visited Pensthorpe I saw more seedheads than flowers, but still wonderful – take a look!
