Clapham Black, White and Green Contemporary Garden

This Clapham garden was typically in a terrible mess. Builders had used the garden as a dumping ground for the build of a large back extension to the house. Caroline Garland, garden designer, was given a very specific brief by her client… “I want an easy to maintain garden, a place in which I can entertain BUT we also have to make a carport for my Porsche!” and this latter had to be fully integrated into the design. The back garden is actually not very big and so a clever design had to evolve in order to mask the car to some extent. The inside of the house is stylish and minimalist and we decided to use black basalt to complement the house interior but also the white Porsche! The whole wall along the side of the house was taken down – 36m, plus around the front of the house, and re-built. And magnificent electric gates were installed, plus all lighting for the garden. We chose a good looking brick for the walling to match in with the house and then finished the wall with fabulous York stone caps to the piers and coping to the walls. The drive was constructed out of black granite setts or cobbles which looks wonderful and the walls of the garden are white rendered. We built a beautiful semi-circular bull nosed York stone bench set into the low wall within the garden area and the planting in this section is clean and green! 4 stunning old olives, Pittisporum tobiras, lavenders, buxus and hebes with steel grey grasses to finish. Another successful project from Carline Garland, one of the leading garden designers in South London.
